China initiated its manned space programme in 1999. The first taikonaut, Yang Liwei, was sent to orbit on board the Shenzhou V spacecraft in 2003. In October 2005, Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng stayed for five days in space on Shenzhou VI. The third mission, Shenzhou VII, was launched on 25 September 2008, with a first EVA carried out on 27 September. Missions VIII, IX and X have already been planned.

Composition: front orbital module, rear orbital module and reentry module.

Launchbase: Satellite launch center Jiuquan in the Gansu province, China.
