In its most common concept, the Space Elevator consists in a cable or ribbon anchored to a station on Earth and extending to Space. A satellite is attached to its end, and, as the planet rotates, it creates enough centrifugal effect to counteract gravity and keep the cable taut. Vehicles can then climb the tether and deliver cargo (and people) to orbit. |
